in 1956, the Wallace Mining Museum is a walk thru mining experience. We educate, entertain and enlighten visitors on the Coeur d’ Alene mining district.
We have on display, the area’s written, graphical, and three-dimensional objects and documents of the Coeur d’Alene Mining District and the Silver Valley.
With over 50 exhibits, more than 5,000 photos and maps, and a one of a kind mock mine experience walk through, there is something for everyone to enjoy!
Fred Levering founded the Wallace District Mining Museum AND the Wallace Chamber of Commerce.
John Ammonsen began his 17 year stretch as the museums executive director. Jim McReynolds stepped in to help from 2007 until 2014.
We received the Sister Alfreda Elsensohn Award for recognition as a leader in Museums for the State of Idaho.
Tammy Copelan became and still is the executive director of the Wallace District Mining Museum.
We became the only Museum in the Silver Valley with comprehensive digital archives.
We opened the first map and research room in the Silver Valley
